Ideal Location:

Soil type preference: Requires well-drained soil. Tolerates sand or loam soil, but intolerant of clay.
pH preference: Prefers somewhat acidic soil, but tolerates alkaline soil. Ideal pH range: 5.5-7.8.
Moisture preference: Prefers moist soil, but tolerates dry sites and occasional drought.
Light preference: Full sun to part shade.
Salt tolerance: Tolerant of salt spray and somewhat tolerant of soil salt.
Other:
Pest susceptibility and tolerance: No major pest problems. Susceptible to needle cast, rust, cankers, aphids, bark beetles, spruce budworm, and scale.
Notable foliage and flower characteristics: Blue-gray needles.
Height and spread: The cultivars ‘Baby Blue Eyes’, ‘Bakeri’, and ‘Fat Albert’ grow, on average, 12 to 20 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide.
Form: Pyramidal or conical, depending on the cultivar, and quite symmetrical. Not recommended as a street tree.
Native status and zone: Zones 2-7. Native.
