TESTING PROCESS

The SPD hiring process begins with your submitting an application and completing a test through the National Testing Network. Upon review of your application packet and test scores, you may be extended an invitation to come to Sheridan for physical fitness testing and a hiring oral board. Testing is offered several times a year, typically on the third Thursday of each month. For testing, you will need to complete a physical test following the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy fitness standards. Then you must pass an oral board. Once you successfully complete the testing process (NTN test, physical test, oral board) you will be placed on a hiring list. If your score is high enough you will then move into the background phase. This will include a background investigation, medical exam, psychological exam, polygraph, and interview with the Chief. If you complete that phase you may be offered a position with the Sheridan Police Department.

The Sheridan Police Department offers written testing services for the position of Police Officer through National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select ‘Find Jobs’, then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for the Sheridan Police Department.

When you visit the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website you may:

-Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test.

-Review all information related to the Sheridan PD Police Officer position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.

-Review detailed information about the testing process.

-Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired).

Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the Sheridan PD. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry-level exam and submit an application will be placed on the department’s eligibility list. The Sheridan PD will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry-level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the Sheridan PD’s responsibility and decision-making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to Sheridan PD where the final decisions are made.
