Do You Provide Tours Of Your Plant?

Do You Land Apply Your Sludge & What Do You Do With Your Treated Sludge?
No, we do not.  Treated and dewatered sludge is transported to the City Landfill to be mixed with green waste for composting.
Do You Have Lagoons?
While many of Wyoming's Wastewater Treatment Plants have lagoons, the City of Sheridan does not. 
What Is The Plant's Classification & Capacity?
The plant is classified as a Level IV and is rated at 4.4 million gallons per day.
What Is The Type Of Processing At The Plant? Do You Have A Plant Laboratory & Staff On-Site?
The plant uses an activated sludge extended aeration process.

Yes, each backup operator is fully trained in lab analysis and we do have a full time Laboratory Coordinator.
What Is Required To Be An Operator Or Mechanic At The Wastewater Treatment Plant?

Operator requirements:

  • Experience must be earned at the type of plant or system for which certification is desired.
  • Level I, 6 months and 35 contact hours within one year of employment.
  • Level II, 1 year and 70 contact hours within two year of employment.
  • Level III, 2 years total, 1 at Class II or higher facility and 300 contact hours within 4 years of employment.
  • Level IV, 3 years total, 2 at Class III or higher facility and 400 contact hours within 5 years of employment.

Mechanic requirements:

  • Must have extensive pump and motor mechanical experience.
  • Technical troubleshooting.
  • Electrical knowledge.
  • Willingness to understand plant process.
Is The Water That Is Discharged From The Plant To Goose Creek Safe?
Yes, the Wastewater Treatment Plant is regulated by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and EPA to follow strict discharge guidelines.
What Can't Be Dumped Down The Drain?
Anything that could potentially harm the biological process of our plant, such as: fats, oils and grease, prescription medicines, all petroleum products, acids, pesticides and harsh cleaners.
Do You Use Effluent Water For Plant Use & What Do You Use To Filter Out Impurities?
The effluent water (sewage that has been treated) is filtered using a 100 micron filter before it is utilized within the plant. The filtered water is used for the filter belt press wash down process, landscaping and non-potable hose reel system.
